The Heron Bay community and residents of Henry and Spalding counties recently celebrated the approval of Heron Bay Academy’s charter from the State of Georgia Charter Commission.

The celebratory meeting was held on Wednesday, March 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at the Heron Bay Lodge. Residents from both Henry and Spalding counties met to celebrate the new charter and to identify opportunities for volunteering and leadership. Discussion was held regarding the next steps Henry County will take. Some of the steps included the  need for volunteer assistance, anticipated timeliness and being able to answer questions.

35 groups applied to the commission for new charters and Heron Bay Academy was one of only seven approved charters this past year. (more…)

Race weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia is right around the corner! Excellent weather is in store for a weekend of non-stop racing. Temperatures are predicted to be in the low 60s with little chance of rain. The gorgeous weather is sure to bring out the masses to the mile and a half track located 20 miles south of Atlanta. In fact, the campers and RV’s are already arriving to get a premier camping space.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers start with qualifying under the lights on Friday, March 5. Saturday should provide an afternoon of thrilling speed as the drivers of the Camping World Truck Series take on the track. Great weather and great racing, what more could an Atlantan ask for? (more…)

Congratulations to the Heron Bay Ladies Tennis Team who recently won the ALTA Atlanta City B4 Championship!

This is not the first time one of the tennis teams has been a champion. In the Summer of 2008 the mixed ALTA team won the city division in their first season together. Since then several new teams have been formed, including the Ladies Team that just won.  Heron Bay also has several Men and Junior teams, making it easy for the whole family to play.  Lessons are also offered by one of the residents in the master-planned community in Henry County.

It’s time once again for all the rides, events, family activities and junk food the come with the Henry County Fair.

The Henry County Fair will have a Ferris wheel, the Sea Dragon and all your favorite fair rides. It will have funnel cakes, hotdogs, pizza on a stick and even more unhealthy, yet absolutely delicious break-your-diet foods. There will be animals, music, contests, exhibitions, livestock, auctions and a petting zoo.

The fair began as a place to celebrate the agriculture of Henry County and continues to do so today. This annual fair has been a Henry County tradition for decades and the week long event is set for September 29 – October 3, 2009.
