Dive-in Movie At Heron Bay

Heron Bay amenity areaNo, that isn’t a typo.  Heron Bay Golf and Country Club is hosting a dive-in movie at their fantastic pool on Saturday, August 15th.

This unique event will be a great pick-me-up after the first week of school. The dive-in will feature the popular DreamWorks movie Kung Fu Panda and the Heron Bay Community Association will provide popcorn, candy and soft drinks to all residents.

This fun night out can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The Heron Bay Golf and Country Club’s aquatic center includes three pools with waterslides and water mushrooms and the Junior Olympic pool is even heated so it can be used year-round. Heron Bay Residents Enjoy Summer Evenings at the Lakefront Park

hblakeHeron Bay Golf & Country Club’s Lakefront Park opened a year ago and this summer residents can take full advantage of all that the park offers. From a nice grassy spot for a picnic lunch to a serene setting for reading a book, the Lakefront Park is the perfect spot to enjoy a summer evening.  Heron Bay residents will make many memories at the park that features a large pavilion that offers breathtaking views of Cole Reservoir and includes a catering kitchen, overhead fans, picnic tables, fire pits, an iPod docking station and swings. Beautiful pergolas are scattered around the lawn surrounding the pavilion and provide an ideal place to relax. Support the Heron Bay Academy

heronbay_acad_logo-300x246Heron Bay Golf & Country Club is working hard to get approval on their pending charter for the Heron Bay Academy and now is the time for you to step in and show your support. Once approved, children at the master-planned community in Henry County will have the opportunity to attend the new school beginning fall 2010. The Henry and Griffin-Spalding County School Systems are expected to make their decision within 60 days, so we need your support NOW.

You have two opportunities to show your support: attend an upcoming school board meeting of the counties or write letters of support to the district representative.  (more…)

Explore Nature During Tree Top Excursions

treesOn the first Saturday of every month, from June 6 through Dec. 5, 2009, join Panola Mountain State Park for an introductory climb to Canopy-Adventure-Research-Educational Technical Tree Climbing (CARETTC). From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. participants will use rope and harness for exploring the canopy above. Advance registration for this amazing adventure is $10 plus $3 for parking. Tree Top Excursions provide a unique opportunity to explore our natural surroundings. To register, call 770-389-7801.

Memorial Day Benefit Supports “Fallen Heroes”

070515-M-8112O-ZEMBIEC7This Sunday celebrate Memorial Day at the Fallen Heroes Family Foundation Memorial Day Benefit at Nash Farm Battlefield on Jonesboro Road. From 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. attendees will enjoy live music and activities as they honor our nation’s “Fallen Heroes.” The day’s activities will include a 50/50 drawing, poker run, vendors, car show, raffles and plenty of fun and games for the kids. There will be plenty of good food including BBQ plates available for $10 and bag lunches available for $5. Admission tickets to the benefit are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 11. All proceeds from the day will go to the Fallen Heroes Family Foundation, bring you blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a day of family-fun as you celebrate Memorial Day. (more…)

Mark Muir and his Frisbee Dogs

Mark Muir, Heron Bay resident, describes this past weekend as “one of the most grueling three days of Frisbee dog I have ever been involved with…”. Mark has been struggling with some knee problems that require rest but with the Frisbee World Championships around the corner he had to keep practicing. After all, The World Championship Frisbee Dog Qualifying started back in February with qualifiers from all over the world and thousands of different teams vying for that top spot as World Champion.

Since residing in the master-planned community in Henry county, Mark has been training with his dogs, Gipper and Rocket, for four years at the Community Sports Field, one of the many amenities residents are able to enjoy. (more…)

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Locust Grove Tanger OutletTanger Outlet Center in Locust Grove, Georgia and nationwide are asking patrons to help save lives in the battle against breast cancer. For just a $1 donation, shoppers receive a 25 percent discount at participating Tanger stores across the nation. The 25 Percent Pink Cards are available for purchase through Sunday, October 19. All proceeds will remain in the community and benefit the Georgia Cancer Foundation.

All money raised by Locust Grove’s Tanger Outlet will be donated through the Stanley K. Tanger Breast Cancer Fund. Not only are funds being raised for breast cancer but also lung, colon and prostate cancer. A Tanger “Cure Card” can be purchased through December 31 and 10 percent of the purchase price will be donated to help in the fight against these deadly diseases.

Heron Bay residents are able to enjoy discount shopping while giving back to the area at the same time. Tanger Outlet Mall is just a short drive from the award winning master planned community in Henry County.
