The Heron Bay Swim Team, the Hurricanes, had its inaugural season this summer and are now wrapping up practice this week in anticipation of the final swim meet at the Clayton County Aquatic Center. The 40-member team has been working extremely hard since mid-May and will celebrate all of that hard work with an award ceremony at the Heron Bay Aquatic Center next week. Over the summer they have competed in 6 meets against Monarch Village Flyers, Lakemont Lightning, Eagles Landing Swim Team, Fairfield Area Swim Team (F.A.S.T), Tara Tarpons and Walden Waves.

As the master-planned community in Henry County continue to grows so do the events and activities available year-round to all the residents. In essence, the homeowners have many opportunities to meet new neighbors and spend time with friends that reside in the Atlanta lake community. As well as events, Heron Bay has a multitude of amenities including a 3-pool Aquatic & Tennis center, 3 miles of nature trails and a Canongate golf course.

This summer is one of the most exciting summers at Heron Bay Golf & Country Club, in Henry County. The Social Committee has been busy planning several H-O-T events to keep the residents at the master-planned community C-O-O-L.

The Open House Extravaganza was held on Friday, June 4th at the Canongate golf clubhouse. The afternoon started off with kid’s time at the pool and then the adults were able to enjoy happy hour at the pool. As the evening drew near, everyone gathered inside the clubhouse for an appetizer buffet with chicken skewers, meatballs, stuffed mushrooms and much more. Businesses from Town Center at Heron Bay set up displays to showcase their services. They included the Urgent Care Center, Bay Pharmacy, Rubi Nails, C Changes Hair Salon and Byrd Insurance Agency. The evening ended with karaoke on the patio.

Heron Bay events coming up over the next few months include a luau themed Adult Pool Party and a patriotic themed Family Pool Party. A Sunset Picnic at the Lakefront Park over looking the Cole Reservoir will be held in July and a (more…)

The Heron Bay Community Association, Advanced Aquatics and residents of Heron Bay have organized a summer swim team. This is the first year the Henry county community has had a swim team and the 40 member team is already practicing in anticipation of their first swim meet. Children from 5 years old to 18 years old are invited to participate in the team sport. The residents of the Atlanta golf community are thrilled to be benefiting greatly by having yet another activity so close to home. This is a great way for the children to remain active during the summer, make new friends and parents to meet new neighbors. The cohesiveness of Heron Bay makes it truly a great place to settle down. It is that time of year and the residents of this Atlanta lake community are spring cleaning. Head out to Heron Bay in Locust Grove this Saturday, April 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to treasure hunt among the 50 houses participating in the Spring Community Wide Garage Sale.

After the garage sale is over, All About Developmental Disabilities (AADD) will gather any unsold items as donations to their organization. The AADD has helped families in Georgia since 1956. This organization has assisted individuals with development disabilities with obtaining training for jobs, receiving education and medical care and finding places to live. Any Heron Bay residents  not participating in the garage sale are encouraged to contact the AADD to make a donation. (more…)

Atlanta golf community, Heron Bay Golf & Country Club has over 20 homes available that can close in time for you to take advantage of the Federal Housing Tax Credit.

Hurry! Timing is crucial as you must be under contract by April 30, 2010 and close by June 30, 2010 in order to get the tax credit.

First time home buyers are eligible for $8000 and current homeowners can earn up to $6500 for purchasing a new primary residence. Current homeowners are only qualified if they have lived in their current residence for five consecutive years of the last eight years.

In addition, the income eligibility was also increased to $125,000 for individuals and $225,000 for married couples. (more…)

The Positive Standards Committee at master-planned community, Heron Bay Golf and Country Club hosted a Spring Landscaping Seminar for fellow residents on March 9. The seminar featured the owner of Serenity Landscape Services who provided tips on having a pristine yard for the upcoming spring, summer and fall seasons.

One of the tips Serenity Landscapes gave was the importance of putting pre-emergent on the lawn by the end of March to prevent summer/fall weeds. (more…)

Congratulations to the Heron Bay Ladies Tennis Team who recently won the ALTA Atlanta City B4 Championship!

This is not the first time one of the tennis teams has been a champion. In the Summer of 2008 the mixed ALTA team won the city division in their first season together. Since then several new teams have been formed, including the Ladies Team that just won.  Heron Bay also has several Men and Junior teams, making it easy for the whole family to play.  Lessons are also offered by one of the residents in the master-planned community in Henry County.

Many herons dread a visit from their in-laws, but I lucked out. My wife Helen’s parents are truly a joy to spend time with. They finally came to visit us in our beautiful home in the Heron Bay Golf & Country Club community this year for Grandparent’s Day. We had such a blast together. Spalding, my sweet boy, proposed that since Grandma and Grandpa Hampton are so great, we should have Grandparent’s Weekend instead of just Grandparent’s Day!
