The Heron Bay Community Liaison Committee is asking all households in Heron Bay to share donations that will benefit In His Name, Inc., food bank source for Henry county and Family & Child Services in Spalding county. In His Name recently suffered a horrible robbery of many food items. Nicole Ragland, CLC Chair and the Community Assoiciation is asking residents to support many families in the local community that are in need during these difficult economic times.

Residents are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food items, basic toiletries/hygiene products and gift cards to the Heron Bay Lodge from October 27 through November 21. Grand Kick-Off for the fund raiser will be Wednesday, November 5. Thank you for all of your help!

The Community Liaison Committee was formed by the Community Association to offer charitable support to the local community and non-profit agencies, being Henry county, Spalding county and Locust Grove. The committee collected donations earlier this year for Noah’s Ark, an animal rehabilitation center and children’s home in Locust Grove.

Since the opening of Kohl’s and JCPenney nearly a year ago, not much progress has been made to the South Point retail area. But Jim Baker, managing partner of South Point Retail Partners development says 2009 will be the year much progress is made for this shopping area for south metro Atlanta. He also says there will be close to 200 additional retail jobs available. Construction is planned to begin in January next year and the stores scheduled to open in summer 2009 include a Rooms To Go, Toys R’ Us, Babies R’ Us, Haverty’s furniture store, and Hobby Lobby. In addition to 600,000 square feet of retail space; restaurants, office space and possibly a multi-purpose arena are also being planned. Currently a four-story, 110 room Hilton Hotel is under construction.

The South Point development is located on Hwy 20 in McDonough just off I-75. The retail stores here will provide a great convenience to Heron Bay residents which are about a 7 mile drive from the development. Henry County, in particular south Henry County where Heron Bay is located, is expected to grow tremendously over the next 20 - 30 years. This centrally located shopping area will not only be convenient to Heron Bay residents but to all Henry County residents.

After nearly 2 years of construction, the $2.1 million facility is finally complete. The conference center is the first of many planned facilities in the 21-acre area. Other structures planned over the next 2 years include a senior center and a new public works facility. Locust Grove’s mayor, Lorene Lindsey was quoted in the Henry Daily Herald, “We’re just excited and we have big plans”.On Thursday, August 28 the Locust Grove Conference Center will host it’s first event. The Henry County Chamber of Commerce is holding it’s 5th Annual Toast of Tourism from 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Canongate Golf Club at Heron Bay Golf and Country Club in Locust Grove will be hosting the 2008 Henry County Rotary Charity Golf Classic on August 18. According to Kerry Arnold, Rotary Secretary this event has been a major fundraiser for the organization for 10 years. In 2007, the golf tournament (also hosted by Heron Bay) raised $20,000. The Rotary Club is seeking 36 four-person teams for the event. So far, 19 teams have signed up for the tournament.

The Rotary Club organizes several projects which benefit local organizations throughout Henry County, Georgia. They are also a partner with Henry County School’s to promote adolescent development.

The local non-profit organization, Locust Grove Better Home Town, is hosting Groovin’ in the Grove this Saturday! For those that don’t know about Locust Grove Better Hometown, it is a local organization that strives to revitalize downtown Locust Grove. Bay Pharmacy, the new pharmacy opening at Town Center at Heron Bay was recently in the Henry Daily Herald, “Full-time pharmacy comes to Heron Bay.”

Residents at Locust Grove’s Heron Bay will soon have the convenience of a pharmacy in the neighborhood, in addition to the many other amenities of this golf course community just 40 minutes south of Atlanta. The article includes an interview from one Heron Bay recent that is very excited to have a pharmacy so close to home. “I think it [the pharmacy] will be a great asset, we won’t have to drive a distance to get the immediate care that we need,” said 60-year-old Grace Blount, a two-and-a-half-year resident of the Heron Bay community. The Heron Bay Community Association and the Social Activities Committee held a Sweetheart Soiree for residents at the Heron Bay Lodge on Valentine’s evening. The enchanted, romantic evening included dinner, cocktails, live entertainment and a special sweetheart gift. The event featured a formal, five-course meal with a dessert buffet including strawberry shortcake, cheesecake and other sweets. The mood was set with white covered, candlelight tables, red rose bouquet centerpieces. Attendees were dressed their best as they enjoyed contemporary jazz music by a live band and a beautiful gift of festive, fancifully wrapped chocolates.

This fun and romantic evening was perfect for long-time sweethearts and for meeting that special someone to be a future sweetheart. What a better way to spend the most romantic day of the year than to be around friends and family and be close to home!?

The social committee was formed by the Community Association to cultivate a sense of community within Heron Bay through regular events for residents of all ages and takes pride in bringing together the residents of Heron Bay as a real community.
