Heron Bay Academy Granted Approval!
Heron Bay Academy received the news it had hoped for earlier this week when it got approval from the Georgia Charter School Commission to begin construction on the charter school that will be located on the beautiful grounds of Heron Bay Golf & Country Club in Locust Grove.
The tuition-free school will open in the fall of 2011 and will initially serve 400 students grades K-6 in Henry and Spalding County in its first year, although plans to expand to K-8 are expected in the school’s third year.
Unlike a traditional public school, the new charter school will allow for a more hands-on social studies program that includes literature, drama, art, music and technology studies. Foreign language studies will also be offered to kindergarten students, allowing them to get a jump start on foreign language education.
A uniform dress code, before and after school programs, a personalized achievement plan for every student, extended school hours and an extended school year are other unique aspects that will help set the Academy apart from traditional public schools.
Heron Bay Academy is currently accepting applications for enrollment for students K-6 in Henry and Spalding Counties. For more information on the Academy or to enroll your child, visit http://www.heronbayacademy.org/register.html. Be sure to register soon as capacity is limited. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces offered, a lottery will be held. Keep in mind that once a student is enrolled, that student and any younger siblings will be guaranteed enrollment.
