Celebrate Independence Day at Nash Farm Park

Henry County to Honor Local Fallen Hero Tonight

070515-M-8112O-ZEMBIEC7Last week one of our local soldiers, Sargeant First Class John C. Beale, fell during action in Afghanistan and will be returning home tomorrow, June 11, 2009. Members of the community have been asked to line the escort route as Sargeant First Class John C.  Beale’s body is escorted from Falcon Field to the Cannon-Cleveland Funeral Home by the Henry County Police Department. It’s Greening Henry County Week

recycle-copyThis week is Greening Henry County week and each day Henry County will send out a Green Tip of the Day to all Update subscribers and Twitter users. Monday, June 1, also kicked off Henry County’s new Curbside Recylcing program. With nearly 73,000 households throwing away an average of 16.8 pounds of waste per day and no landfill, Henry County feels that now is the time to start doing more to reduce waste and protect the environment. The new program means that all waste haulers must offer curbside recycling for homeowners in unincorporated Henry County. Once approved, children at the master-planned community in Henry County will have the opportunity to attend the new school beginning fall 2010. The Henry and Griffin-Spalding County School Systems are expected to make their decision within 60 days, so we need your support NOW.

Explore Nature During Tree Top Excursions

treesOn the first Saturday of every month, from June 6 through Dec. 5, 2009, join Panola Mountain State Park for an introductory climb to Canopy-Adventure-Research-Educational Technical Tree Climbing (CARETTC). From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. participants will use rope and harness for exploring the canopy above. Advance registration for this amazing adventure is $10 plus $3 for parking. Tree Top Excursions provide a unique opportunity to explore our natural surroundings. To register, call 770-389-7801.
