A Henry County 4th of July Celebration

July 2nd, 2008

Fireworks ExtravaganzaDo you know what your plans are for the Fourth of July this weekend? Well, living in Henry County at Heron Bay, you have a unique opportunity right in your backyard. At Nash Farm Park on July 3rd and 4th, you can celebrate at the Georgia Independence Day Festival. With festivities beginning at 3 p.m. and concluding with a fireworks extravaganza at dark, your day will be full of fun for the entire family. Children under the age of 5 are free to get in, and it’s $2 for children 6 - 12 and $5 for adults. This is more than just a typical festival as you and your family will get some history lessons to help understand why the 4th of July is so important to our nation.

By spending the day at Nash Farm Park, it will seem like you were transported back to 1776, with live colonial music and dancing filling the streets. In addition, scenes of the revolution will be on display as will living history lessons, and you will be able to meet our Founding Fathers. The best part about a festival like this is that it makes learning fun, your children won’t even realize they are getting a history lesson. Of course there will be other fun activities not focused entirely on educating, like face painting, a kids zone, shopping, pony rides and plenty of festival foods to satisfy your hunger. And it wouldn’t be a 4th of July celebration without a spectacular fireworks display, so be sure to stay until dark to see the night sky come to life.

lesmis.gifLiving in Heron Bay gives residents access to all of the wonderful events taking place every weekend in Henry County and Locust Grove. While Heron Bay does do its best to offer parties and events within the community, on those off weekends you won’t lack for fun activities. For example, this weekend at the Henry County Performing Arts Center, you can catch the School Edition of “Les Miserables.” Presented by the Henry Players, you can see an author-approved version of the hit musical for only $13.

Or, for some outdoor fun in Stockbridge, tonight you can partake in the “Walk on the Wild Side Night Hike.” With a hike taking place every Thursday evening through the summer, you can get an introduction to the nocturnal world of the forest and swamps. This is fun for the whole family and only $5 a person! From 7:30 - 9:00 you might see fluorescent creatures, hear bats or even spot an owl. Registration is required to take part in these hikes, so call 770-389-7801.

These weekend activities are a great way for you to get acquainted with the area in which you live. Did you miss Chik-fil-A at the Pool?

June 17th, 2008

1782_3751_cow_and_kids8xjesgptzrc4wo44sksgocs4g6ylu316ao144c8c4woosog48wth.jpegAs if spending a day at the Heron Bay aquatic center isn’t entertaining enough with the mushroom fountains, waterslides and pools, there was a celebrity siting there the other day. The Eat Mor Chicken cow stopped by to see the kids and parents and give away some free Chik-fil-A samples, which is only one more thing to add to the long list of features that makes Heron Bay so unique and such a wonderful community to raise a family. A summer day at Heron Bay is full of fun and surprises, as these kids were not expecting to meet the Eat Mor Chicken Cow that they have seen all over billboards in Atlanta and on t.v. commercials. Even better, the cow came bearing gifts - chicken strips, samples of new Chick-fil-A sauces and other goodies for children and parents alike.  Luckily for those that missed it, Henry Heron was also on scene to relay the details of the day on his journal.
